Over 80 years ago this letter was written to my grandfather. He was born in Dennin (near Japenzin, Germany) in 1850; migrated to Illinois around 1877 and took up a homestead in Lanigan, Sask in 1906. He died in 1930, the year I was born.

There are some chilling parallels to today's economic climate and it is not difficult to understand the ease with which Hitler's Nazi party came to power in 1930.
